Hamilton Arts Award Nominee in Media Arts, 2018

~Artist Statement~

Franca Marazia lives in Hamilton, Ontario. Her passion for photography is fueled by her love of color.

Raised by Italian immigrant parents, her surroundings included vegetable gardens, fruit trees and

beautiful flower beds. A total experience for the senses. Luscious hues, fragrance, texture and taste.

According to Franca, it is the emotional content in an image which is the most important element. Perhaps

the viewer will connect one of her images to a cherished memory.

As a self-taught photographer, Franca's lifelong interest in the visual and dramatic arts inspire her. Architecture,

bicycles, candid shots, everyday objects, fall colors, secret gardens, street scenes and waterscapes are favorite

themes in her collection of works. Franca's experiences are shaped by the need to wander and observe, and her

camera is her passport.

Franca has been a part of the art community in the Hamilton area since 2016. Her works have been included in

such exhibitions as "Art in the Workplace" at McMaster Innovation Park; "Visions 2020: The 125th Women's Art

Association of Hamilton" at the Art Gallery of Hamilton; LATOW Photography Guild at the Art Gallery of Burlington; and

Dundas Valley School of Art Auctions. Other events include "Artcrawl" and "Supercrawl" at the Hamilton Store;

"Doors Open" at Christ's Church Cathedral; and The Cactus Festival Parade as sponsor and photographer. Franca

is a member of Textures Craftworks, a collective of juried artists and artisans on Locke Street South.

Currently, Franca has a solo exhibit at the Dutch inspired "Cafe Oranje" on King Street East in Hamilton's

International Village. Several images in the collection were captured in Amsterdam in 2017.
